The Old Operating Theatre

PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

Behind London Bridge train station is the Old Operating Theatre. It's rather inconspicuous and much smaller than I thought but really interesting to visit. I loved all the medical posters, old tins and the apothecary jars, especially the ones with with the fairy lights inside them. Oh and the sign that says marshmallow is healthy. But it were only true.

In no way did any of the operating instruments put us off our food either - as soon as we left we ran across the road to Furness Fish, Poultry and Game in Borough Market for their yummy Vietnamese curry.

Treats

I'm such a sucker for a soft cardboard cover notebook, so much so that I had to put a ban on myself buying any more at the beginning of this year. It may seem like a little thing but I seriously blow so much of my wages on notebooks it's ridiculous. Anyway the ban went out of the window this weekend when I saw these two geometric print books in Paperchase on my way to The Play-House V&A Late (where I bought the super cute rabbit print notebook and frankly, awesome pens disguised as pencils.)

Finally I have to show off the beautiful and pristine Folio Society British Myths and Legends book collection that I found in a charity shop this morning. If you hadn't heard of them before, the Folio Society publish some of the prettiest and best made books around. They're expensive but they feel like elegant treasures, crafted to last forever, to be cherished and handed down. I want them all.

Balcombe

A walk in the country over stiles, across sheep fields, past viaducts, through farmyards. Stopped off for tea in the village tea rooms where I had a slice of the largest battenburg cake I’ve ever seen. Endless Withnail quoting opportunities.

The Horniman Museum. Definitely one of London’s best.

My tv’s digital signal as been so bad recently that I’ve been forced to watch all my old boxsets. I don’t think I appreciated just how awesome The Green Wing was the first time around.

Exhibition: Pick Me Up

Photobucket

A nice hour spent today at Pick Me Up, a week long graphic art fair at Somerset House.

Walking through the exhibition you get to meet different collectives, most of whom have set up small shops to sell their work, a lot of which has been made just for the show. The highlight is the Anthony Burrill Workshop where anyone can get their hands dirty making fanzines.

Unfortunately I only had my mobile with me so the photos are particularly bad but some of my favourite bits are below.

You know when you hear a song and it’s all wrong and unimpressive but then you hear it quite unexpectedly and suddenly it sounds perfect? Well, that’s exactly what happened yesterday when I heard the new Strokes song as I sat outside under the sunshine in a park by the Thames eating a yummy fish finger sandwich. It’s funny how things can just come together like that.

It's Europe Week on Etsy which is obviously an excellent excuse for me to put up some items from European sellers that I've been lusting over.

My sister gave me a bag of fabric swatches last night, my favourite is the blue swallow print. I can’t wait to start playing with them.

Red Nose Day

PhotobucketPhotobucket
Today is comic relief, the one day in the year when you’re most likely to meet someone sitting in a bath of baked beans. Shamefully I forgot to buy a red nose (I was holding out for one the pirate designs) but I think my mum made up for it by buying two of the Vivienne Westwood Red Nose Day tees. The Hogarth one in the photo is the one I got my grubby mitts on.

Favourite Things

It may be childish, a little flimsy and stupidly expensive to change the bulb but I love my Starmaster. I can switch it on and I’m propelled to another universe.

Charity Shop Rummage

Photobucket
A Sunday spent rooting around charity shops and watching 30 Rock. Not bad. I’m completely in love with the mink pink jumper, I’ll probably be living in it come summer.

Shrove Tuesday

It’s pancake day so in honour of this fine face stuffing day here is my mum’s pancake recipe. It never fails.
